Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) 2017 – 2018 Academic Year Spring Semester graduates bid farewell to the city through a Torchlight Procession which took place at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, 18 June 2018. Approximately 2,800 graduates were present at the procession wearing their gowns.
EMU 2017-2018 Academic Year Spring Semester graduates, academicians, administrative staff members, students and families started the procession with torchlights at the Famagusta Development Academy and walked to EMU Atatürk Square. Singing songs during the walk, the graduating students bid farewell to the city of Famagusta and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The procession took approximately one hour and welcomed the participation of EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. H. Tanju Besler.
After the completion of the march, the enthusiastic group of graduates were welcomed by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Özkaramanlı. Prof. Dr. Osam wished good luck to the graduates and stated that they feel very proud of every single graduate as the EMU family. After the short speech of Prof. Dr. Osam, the graduates continued with the graduation celebrations at the square.
