Orthopedic Prosthetics Orthotics

General Information

The aim of the program is train competent prosthetics and orthotics technicians who can design, manufacture, and apply prosthetic devices that replace the lost limbs and restore their functions for individuals who lost limbs due to various reasons. Moreover, the prosthetics and orthotics technicians contribute to the clinical decision-making process in orthotic applications that help reduce pain, improve function, correct deformities, and provide support for musculoskeletal and nervous system conditions.

Education

Over the course of 2-year curriculum designed in line with the higher education criteria, the training offers an interaction learning process which consists of basic health and engineering science courses, theoretical and applied prosthetics and orthotics courses and clinical internship trainings.

Facilities

The Prosthetics and Orthotics Center, operating under the EMU Health Sciences Faculty, is the only center that offers academic services to patients within the scope of the protocol signed with TRNC Ministry of Health. This unique aspect distinguishes it from similar programs in the country, making it a pioneer both academically and in terms of infrastructure. The center provides students with a practical learning environment and, through collaborations with institutions in Türkiye specializing in prosthetics and orthotics education and services, offers them the opportunity to study in a multidisciplinary setting.

Career Opportunities

With continuous advancements in technology, the field of prosthetics and orthotics is constantly evolving, creating a demand for prosthetics and orthotics technicians who can apply scientific techniques and compete internationally. Graduates have career opportunities in public and private hospitals with prosthetics and orthotics workshops, universities, and specialized private laboratories. They can also pursue their careers by starting their own businesses.
