Departmental Facilities

Students of our department benefit from laboratories equipped with modern facilities at world standards. Each laboratory has been designed to provide opportunities for approximately 50 students to receive training at the same time. Our University provides sufficient number of computers with Internet connections for students. Students are also given the privilege of benefitting from the Eastern Mediterranean University Library which is equipped with modern facilities, equipment and databases. Our University also provides an array of recreational opportunities for our students in the form of social, cultural and sports activities.

Having been opened as the first academic department on Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, EMU Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department is unique in Cyprus. With the aim of graduating well-educated and successful physiotherapists and maintaining the interdisciplinary dynamism, our University has signed a collaboration protocol with Marmara and Gazi Universities. Along with the collaborations, the department receives professional support from expert academicians at various institutions in Turkey with the aim of effective course implementation. Our program has been designed in such a way that elements such as analysing, tackling problems, coming to conclusions, thinking creatively and critically, working in a team and communicating effectively have been integrated with the course content. A number of collaboration protocols have been made with different institutions in order to provide our students with internship opportunities.

Major Accomplishments

Our qualified health instructors provide personalized therapy programs for children, adults, youths and elders who have problems with their muscle, skeleton and nerve system by identifying their health problems and creating personalized exercise programs at the Centre of Healthy Life. We established a new laboratory called Cardiopulmonary and Athletes' Health Laboratory to provide protective rehabilitation services. Within the scope of this laboratory, we aimed to overcome with recent health problems such as physical inactivity, overweighting, diabetes and cardiac diseases by providing relevant protective exercise programs to our clients.

Our department has started to serve voluntary physiotherapy services to Irfan Nadir Physiotherapy Centre and Famagusta Special Education Centre with the aim of raising the awareness of disabled need of physiotherapy. Our 4th grade students serve their internship at those centres under the control of their qualified instructors and with the permission of Ministry of Education. Moreover, we set Career Days to update our students' knowledge regarding social, cultural and scientific innovations.

This year, we established our master's program and EMU Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Master's program is the pioneer under this category in TRNC.

Quality of Graduates

Students at our department benefit from laboratories equipped with modern technological facilities at world standards. Each laboratory has been designed to provide opportunities for approximately 40-50 students to receive instruction at the same time.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation program are awarded the title of a "Physiotherapist". Program graduates may continue their studies at master's or doctoral degree levels and become a "Specialist Physiotherapist" or "Doctor of Physiotherapy".
