EMU Health Sciences Faculty Delivered Training for the Families of Children with Special Needs

The second series of training for the families of children with special needs was delivered by Eastern Mediterranean University Health Sciences Faculty at 5:30 p.m. on 8 December 2015.

Focusing on ways of managing health problems of children with special needs and helping them reach the maximum level of independence in their daily activities , the training was delivered by experts who provided an array of recommendations for families' specific problems. During the training session, special focus was also put on raising the awareness level of families and receiving first hand support from health professionals and educators.

Following the opening address of Health Sciences Faculty Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç, a team of academic staff members responded to questions coming from families. Having taken place under the moderatorship of EMU Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department academic staff member Prof. Dr. Emine Handan Tüzün, the program included a group of experts' views and recommendations including Prof. Dr. Perihan Arslan's nutritional problems in children and right approaches, academic staff member from Near East University Ediz Necati's swallowing problems and physiotherapy, Zerrin Güneş' speech disorders, Assist. Prof. Dr. Yasin Yurt's the importance and benefits of assisting devices and techniques such as orthesis and prosthesis, academic staff member İlker Yatar's problems encountered in heart and lung system and academic staff members Ünal Aras Değer and Zehra Güçhan's mobility problems and approaches in physiotherapy.

Prof Dr. Malkoç also provided information on the Faculty's team of experts providing health services as part of the operations of EMU Center for Healthy Living. At the end of her address, Prof. Dr. Malkoç talked about their plans for the third phase of the family training program.
