Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics academicians Merve Yurt and Burcu Barbaros were deemed worthy of the under 35 age category award at the 38th European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) congress.
ESPEN is an important organization that publishes work in the field of clinical nutrition. Each year the organization carries out a congress in a different country and gives their “Travel Award” to young researches under the age of 35.
The 38th annual ESPEN Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism congress took place in Copenhagen, Denmark between the 17th and 20th of September 2016 and included approximately 1000 guests. The congress included the best researches from 37 different countries and saw dieticians Merve Yurt from Turkey and Burcu Barbaros from Cyprus being handed the “Travel Award”.
The congress also involved discussions on inflammation in clinical nutrition, nutrition supplementation for cancer patients, intestine microbiota and health. In addition, verbal poster presentations took place on nutrition epidemiology, carbohydrates and lipid metabolism, vitamins, mineral antioxidants, obesity and metabolic syndromes.
