EMU Health Sciences Faculty Organizes Oath Ceremony For Graduates

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Health Sciences organized an oath ceremony for the graduates of the 2015-2016 Academic Year Spring Semester. During the ceremony which took place at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center at 10:00 a.m. on 20 June 2016, approximately 825 graduates recited the medical oath.

Atakan Songurlu

The oath ceremony commenced with a moment of silence and the national anthem which was followed by a speech from Atakan Songurlu, student representative of the EMU Health Sciences Faculty. After welcoming everybody to the event, Songurlu stated that it is an honour to graduate from a faculty with prominent teaching staff. Songuc went on to state that he will carry out his profession without prejudice towards any religion, race or sect whilst wishing all graduates luck when carrying out their professions.

Mehtap Malkoç

In her speech, Dean of EMU Health Sciences Faculty Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoc stated that today is a proud day for the graduates who are taking their first step towards their prospective careers. Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoc went on to thank the Health Sciences Faculty staff and provide information about the faculty. Addressing the graduates Prof. Dr. Malkoc, requested that they act ethically and keep up to date with new developments in order to help their country and stay bound to Ataturk’s principles and reforms. Prof. Dr. Malkoc concluded her speech by extending her best wishes to the new graduates in their prospective careers.

Necdet Osam

Next, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam delivered a speech on behalf of the university in which he stated that despite once being a university known for its engineering education, EMU is now making significant breakthroughs in the health field and gathering attention as a result of the faculties it has set up. Addressing the students Prof Dr. Osam stated that they are graduates of a field that is of high concern to people who can sometimes feel hopeless. Prof Dr. Osam went on to highlight the importance of trust and compassion that can be shown to patients stating that providing patients with the belief that they will get better is very important.

After the opening speeches, a musical performance was delivered by Dilshad Asadova and Maka Borchashvili, staff from the Department of Fine Arts. Following the musical performance, graduates of the Health Sciences Faculty, Nutrition and Dietetics Department, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department, Nursing Department, Health Management Department, Sports Sciences Department and School of Health Services’ Oral and Dental Health, Anaesthesia, Dialysis, Physiotherapy Technician, First and Emergency Health and Medical Imaging Programs recited an oath with their department chairs and academic staff members. The ceremony was also attended by Rector of Girne American University (GAU) Kutsal Ozturk, secretary general of Istanbul Technical University North Cyprus Campus, Dursun Koc and EMU Vice Rectors, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sozen and Prof. Dr. Hifsiye Pulhan. The ceremony came to a close with graduates being handed saplings and a cocktail.
