EMU Faculty of Health Sciences and Famagusta Ravelin Lions Club Organised an Awareness Event to Mark 14 November World Diabetes Day

In scope of 14 November World Diabetes Day, an awareness event was held for families with the cooperation of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Health Sciences and Famagusta Ravelin Lions Club Association. The TRNC Minister of Public Works and Transport Resmiye Canaltay also attended the event held on the Iskele Makenzi Beach Walking Track on Sunday, 14 November 2021, at 10:00 a.m.. EMU Health Sciences Faculty Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülten Sucu Dağ, Faculty Members Assist. Prof. Dr. Handan Sezgin, Assist. Prof. Dr. Gözde Okburan, Famagusta Ravelin Lions Club Association President Çiğdem Duvarcı, members of the association, students and families were present at the said event which attracted a lot of attention.

“We Are Aware of Diabetes, We Are Determined as a Family”

As part of the event, healthy food stands were opened on the beach and a "Fast Walk Contest" was held on the walking path with the slogan "We Are Aware of Diabetes, We Are Determined as a Family". EMU Health Sciences Faculty, Nursing Department academic staff member and Famagusta Ravelin Lions Club Association Diabetes Supervisor Assist. Prof. Dr. Handan Sezgin provided information to the participants about diabetes and ways to prevent diabetes before the competition. Afterwards, EMU Health Sciences Faculty students performed an optional Diabetes Risk Determination Measurement for family members over the age of 18.

Families walked together in the competition that started after the countdown. At the end of the competition, event sponsor FEEL presented a pack of healthy food to the winners. Participants both raised awareness about diabetes and had a beautiful and healthy day with the walk.
