EMU’s Twofold Achievement in the “19th International Congress on Advances in Physiotherapy” Held in Ankara

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation achieved two major successes in the “19th International Congress on Advances in Physiotherapy” organized by University of Hacettepe, Faculty of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation in Ankara where a great number of academics and researchers all around Türkiye participated.

 

In the congress, EMU Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation took the task of session chairpersonship with 4 faculty members. On the other hand, 2 faculty members participated in the event as invited speakers, providing information and sharing their experiences. Total of 6 scientific papers were presented by faculty members and research assistants.

 

Second Place Awards to Two Scientific Studies

As a result of the evaluations carried out within the scope of the congress, two separate studies conducted by EMU faculty members were granted with second place awards. In ‘Oral Presentation’ category, the study titled “A Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing the Effects of 2D and 3D Virtual Reality Interventions on Reaction Time in Individuals with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo” by Specialist Physiotherapist Aytül Özdil Kocamanyeğit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gözde İyigün, Prof. Dr. Birgül Bağcı and Specialist Physiotherapist Betül Fatma Bilgin received second place award.

 

On the other hand in ‘Poster Presentation’ category, “Effects of Aerobic Exercise Training on Distal Neuropathic Symptoms and Plantar Pressure in Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes and Peripheral Neuropathy” research carried out by Specialist Physiotherapist Cansu Koltak and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yasin Kurt also received second place award in the specified category.

 

“An Immense Source of Pride”

Making remarks on the topic, EMU Health Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç noted that EMU Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation has been actively participating in both national and international congresses each year, continuing to advance is scientific research culture. Prof. Dr. Malkoç said; “It fills us with immense pride that our academic team has played an active role in such a prestigious congress, both through their scientific contributions and as session chairs and speakers. Moreover, the fact that two of the six presented papers received awards further underscores the excellence and research capabilities of our department”. Concluding her remarks, Prof. Dr. Malkoç thanked the award-winners and, all the academics and researchers who represented EMU at the congress. Prof. Dr. Malkoç stated that the scientific contributions of the department will increasingly continue.
